Symbolic gift and songs for a double mother

My friends’ families keep growing. Welcoming another child to their families, they usually have everything they need apart from free space for yet another gadget. That’s why I hit on the idea to give a double mama a symbolic gift and provide you with a list of songs for a mother.

What could a symbolic gift for a double mama look like?

When the first child comes to the world, the choice of gifts is infinite: from flannel diapers with cute patterns, through portable changing stations, baby journals, how-to books*, to toys and clothes. When the second child is born, you don’t want to duplicate these items.

My idea combines simplicity with a symbolic message:

the word MAMA written twice and squared. In the middle: the photo of the double mother:

How to deliver the gift for the double mother?

Designing was easy. But what next? You can’t send a young mother a jpg file per e-mail unless she lives on the other hemisphere and would know best what to do with it.

You may print the double mother design on various photo gifts (see a list of available options here).

You may also give it framed, yet after I had looked for a square frame to present a heart-shaped word cloud for what seemed like ages, this time I considered a creative alternative.

Original frame for a gift for a mother

I found the solution rather quickly: a frame can be made of a CD case.

Once you have decided to use a case, it is worth making use of the CD, too. Depending on the young mother’s taste, you may copy on the CD: a short-story written specially for her, a music video recorded for her, a photo slide show or a list of songs that she will enjoy.

In case you’re running out of ideas, here is a list of songs for a mother:

    Songs for a young mother:

    • “Your Mother and Mine” from “Peter Pan”
    • “Mama Said” by Lukas Graham
    • “Mama Knows” by Shenandoah

Songs for a mother of grown-up children

    • “Mama” by Spice Girls
    • “Mama Said” by Metallica
    • “Mama” by Blaxy Girls
    • “Mama Don’t Forget to Pray for Me” by Diamond Rio
    • “Dear Mama” by 2Pac
    • “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood
    • “A Song For Mama” by Boyz 2 Men
    • “Stay With Me” from “Into the Woods”

    List of songs for fathers

Naturally, daddies also deserve gifts – especially if they are your closer friends.

Instead of “Daddy” you may write “DADA” in the square. As regards songs, here are my suggestions:

    Songs for a young father:

    • “Circle of Life” from “Lion King”
    • “Children Will Listen” from “Into the Woods”

Songs for a father of grown-up children:

    • “Just the Two of Us” by Will Smith
    • “I Learned From You” by Miley Cyrus and Billy
    • “You Let Me Walk Alone” by Michael Schulte
    • “My Father’s Eyes” by Eric Clapton
    • “Daddy” by Beyonce
    • “Daddy Lessons” by Beyonce
    • “My Father’s House” by Bruce Springsteen
    • “Father to Son” by Queen

What else can you record and give on a CD?

In the Polish version of this post, you will find many more songs for young parents. Unfortunately, I am not that familiar with children songs in other languages, but I would be really grateful if you could help me expand these lists!

    My advice:

    – If you want to look for songs on your own, listen to them first and pay attention to the lyrics. When I searched for songs for this post, I encountered numerous “songs for a mother” or “songs for a father” that were, in fact, full of reproach to parents or used the words “mama” or “daddy” in a totally different meaning.

    – If you are looking for a more practical gift, I highly recommend “The Child’s Brain Explained to Parents” – the best book on rearing children aged 2-6 I have ever read. In the first two years since the birth of the first child, the parents’ efforts focus on nurture, which is why it is too early for this present. Yet the birth of the second child might be a perfect opportunity to gift a handbook that can be readily used by the whole family.
